Words, sounds, and space

It’s time

Posted on March 13, 2015 By adcitlali

You probably forgot
that late January   or February
a year        or ten                  or a century ago

Dream-like memory
                    a bad one

It’s time to go   –You dressed up      (for me?       maybe)
                   good-looking coat & hat
That winter coat we bought one summer
                  purchased                  never worn    before
                  You knew I liked it

I wondered   if you listened
          if my words were spoken
Was I confused       by chaos          imminent change?

Voice & sound remained absent
There was snow on the ground
I knew the truth
we were         not together   anymore

A night with friends
not-a-date         just together    somehow

                 Mixed-up drinks          –ours
               Bewildering remarks          –yours

Silent smiles  (forced)          puzzle sights  (transparent)     –mine

Did  you    reject those  words?
  Can   I      retract?

We shared a bed that night
Voiceless dreams     dug our hearts     –or mine
 At dawn    no words
__ we knew the truth __     –or I

    Love is a magical thing..
    and separation from
    love is not a thing..
    for magic to sing
    the art
    of song
    in heart
    for those who love..:)

That’s a sad and bitter ending ~ But when its time to go, best to let things go ~ Who knows, what will come next, maybe better than the last one ~ Thanks for linking up ~

sorrow is something we learn – we can never understand it until we live it. I felt this poem was delicate, intricate – like people who know but cannot say. Very nice

You know it’s the end but the impact doesn’t lessen. Bitterness here but not ugly. This is what I call a “weaving” poem, my own term. The past, the present all together but coming out the same at the end, sadness.

The past creeping up – a visitor in the meeting, but trying as we may it’s an absent future that we have. Some relationships are like that..

I love the jarring pace of this piece. Simple in wordage but such a loaded theme of complexity. You are a poetic force to be reckoned with.

Honestly this is my favorite of all the poems I have read for Open Link so far — in the way you have set the stage, the way you have written it, the way you go back and forth with the ‘his’ and ‘yours’ and the way it ends with a real gut punch. I can tell that you really worked this poem, and the work paid off. Brilliant!

Thank you, Mary. I guess I need to thank the poetry gods that visited me the night I wrote this poem…. 🙂

A pensive moment well narrated with rich and intimate details. Loved it. Thanks for joining on OLN.
