Words, sounds, and space

Just a few seconds

Posted on June 1, 2014 By adcitlali

Amelia felt confused for just a few seconds. The confusion led to fear, fear to sadness.
She was sad about the possibility of a past event. An event that might had happened without her knowing until now. But if it did happen … decisions should have been different. Maybe the pain would have been reduced. Is it possible that she made such a big mistake as a consequence of ignorance? The hint was the purple feather that was left at her front door by … By who? –she wondered.

Ghost at the door
Anxiety
             Forgotten feelings
A purple feather flies away

Did it happen?

For this month’s Open Link Night, I decided to try my own version of the haibun, combining prose with a short free verse poem.

I am eager to learn more about this life-changing event. You seem to have a knack for ramping up the suspense!

i wonder if we interpret too much sometimes in the small things and how it can really turn our world upside down… the little hints to things that seem to hide in the unconsious

Very suspenseful writing. Really would make a good short story….to find out what really happened.

I really liked this. Mysterious gifts often happen on the heels of an event, & we ascribe some sort of commonality to the 2. Which may not be justified. Overthinking simple things can lead us all sorts of places. Thank you for your intriguing story. – OneVoicePoetry, per Vivienne.

Your poem brings up the duplicity of memory– sometimes we can force memories of things that didn’t happen, other times we block them out. The feather makes for an evocative trigger. K.

And yet again Amalia returns… (I have a feeling of an alter ego here).. A wonderful haibun .. and I really like how you stepped outside the tradition.. the purple feather .. could be ominous or just left-over from some easter celebration…

Yeah, Amelia is my new companion. I used to have Fae some years ago, but I have to confess that she had to die at the end of her story. So I have been on my own for many years but now I have Amelia. She is fun.
